Campaigners

The Close the Door campaign originated in Cambridge. We've now developed

  • A highly effective way of approaching retailers
  • Campaign materials directed at the public and retailers
  • A campaign infrastructure including PR, specialist IT and website expertise
  • A effective brand with national recognition

The campaign is now rolling out across the country, with authorised local groups working with the national campaign office to provide a local base for bringing retailers on board. We'd be delighted if you joined our campaign as it will add further momentum, and it's a rewarding and highly effective way of making a real difference to our environment. We're very keen to recruit local groups and work with them, and we'll supply you with everything you need to get up and running, including:

  • A campaigning starter pack, including flyers for the public and stickers
  • Funding advice and help, with the weight of an established campaign behind you
  • Managed local PR
  • Campaign operations assistance, including help with producing local campaign materials
  • A page on our closethedoor.org.uk website for your area, providing recognition of your work and a rallying point for your campaign
  • An email address for the local campaign at closethedoor.org.uk
  • Access to our campaigner's intranet with advice on how to maximise the effectiveness of your campaign
  • An invitation to one of our training days

The structure of the retail industry, with its pattern of head office control of door policy, requires close coordination of national and local campaigns. Our approach also relies on being retailer friendly, which means we have to protect the Close the Door name and ensure local groups work consistently across the country.

So in return for our support, we ask that local groups carefully follow our process and policies. We do welcome suggestions and are constantly fine-tuning the national approach and (of course!) recognise and publicise everyone's input.

We ask that unaffiliated groups running similar campaigns should not use our name or materials, and will take steps to ensure that local and national media organisation are aware of any unauthorised use.
