About the campaign

The Close the Door campaign originated in Cambridge (with initial funding from Cambridge City Council for local print materials) and is now being taken up nationally. It is a non-profit organisation, and all central campaign office work has been contributed on a voluntary basis.

Close the Door was founded by three friends:

Sian, Jeannie and Margaret

Sian Reid worked for Resurgence magazine in the 1970's followed by a business career in telecoms. She moved to Cambridge in 2000 with her husband and teenage children and is now a City Councillor.

Jeannie Dawkins is a graduate of New Hall and lived abroad in Brussels, Paris and Tokyo with her foreign correspondent husband and four children. She has lived in Cambridge for the last ten years.

Margaret Mair works in executive education at the Judge Business School of Cambridge university. She is married to the Master of Jesus College.

If you have any further questions about the campaign, contact us. The campaign relies on the active participation of the general public and retailers so we'd like to hear from you.
